Nadia was sponsored by Turkish Airlines to travel to Turkey, to the lesser-known beauty spots of the mountains by the Black Sea, to capture the landscapes and create artworks for a London event 'portraits of Türkiye’.
This painting depicts Uzungol, nestled in the stunning landscapes of Turkey’s Black Sea region, it is a hidden gem with a serene lake and breathtaking natural beauty. Surrounded by lush forests and majestic mountains, this picturesque destination offers a perfect escape for nature lovers. Nadia walked around the town with a huge white mosque at its heart, ate traditional lentil soup in the local restaurants and hiked up the mountain.
“I climbed with my guide to a viewpoint in the mountain to look back down at the lake. The lake was a magical midnight blue – a stark contrast to the snowy white surroundings! I knew I wnated to bring out that drama in my painting. We were both out of breath climbing up the sheer mountain, slipping in trainers on the ice and snow. My guide’s van even got stuck in the deep snow on the way back. Quite an adventure!”
